JDRF Newly Diagnosed T1D Care Kits

After I was diagnosed, I spent HOURS on the computer researching and trying to learn about a disease I knew nothing about. I eventually stubbled upon the JDRF website. I had no idea what "JDRF" even stood for, so I even had to look that up. Type 1 Diabetes use to be known as "Juvenile Diabetes," but because of people (like me) getting diagnosed in their twenties and older, it is referred to as Type 1 more and more. Hence, the leading global non-profit organization funding Type 1 Diabetes research is called the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). It's their mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. Which makes me a big fan of JDRF.
If you or a loved one have been newly diagnosed with Type 1, first let me say, I am so sorry. 😔 Secondly, welcome to the club! So far, the T1D community has been incredibly supportive, friendly, and encouraging group. I highly recommend getting involved as much as possible to help transition into your new life style.

I also recommend signing up to receive JDRF Newly Diagnosed Care Kits. I feel like many people don't know about these free kits. I was SO happy when I found one for newly diagnosed adults (16 yrs and older)! They also offer a cute Bag of Hope kit for newly diagnosed children, too (16 and younger). Inside you will find helpful items for carb counting, nutrition, coping, and diabetes tools. Plus, they all come in an adjustable sling bag (or backpack for kids) that you can use for years to come!
