My Running Playlist + Tips

I understand that running is not enjoyable for most people. I've been a runner all my life. Apparently, I get it from my Dad. (Thanks Steve)! Yet, I still have days where it is absolutely the LAST thing I want to do. However, listening to some sweet jams definitely makes it a little more fun. I've discovered listening to music that instantly brightens my mood, has a upbeat tempo, or always makes me rock out in the car, gets me amped up and ready to go! Figure out what type of music motivates you and makes you feel like a badass while running.

For those of you who are new to running, try down loading the Couch to 5K app (C25K). Yup, it's free! It helps you work up to running a 5K (or 30 minutes) without stopping in 8 weeks. You'll start with walking/running intervals to build strength and stamina. You can still rock out to music while the app is running in the background. It fades down your music to cue you when to start walking or running.
I'm a huge fan of my FitBit Charge 2. I try wearing it everyday to help me keep track of my steps, active minutes, workouts, distance, etc. I set my FitBit to 'Run' mode and it is able to track my heart rate, distance, pace, and time. It's definitely helped me work on my speed and distance. I've ran 10 different 5Ks within the last few years, and I hope to build up to running my first 10K this year. It's definitely a challenge now that I've been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes - but that's a topic for another blog post.

Another important part of running is finding the right pair of shoes. I've gone through many in my day, and learned which sizes, brands, styles are most comfortable for running. I highly recommend the Nike Free Rn Running Shoes. They come in a BAGILLION colors. I've been leaning more towards (boring) versatile colors that go with any outfit. I currently own these shoes in Black and Pure Platinum. I highly recommend them!

So, my playlist is quite random. It includes Classic Rock to R&B to Disney songs. I still use an old school iPod Touch (do they even still make these?) to play my 'Running' playlist. (I don't have an iPhone). I know, I'm weird, but don't worry! I'll probably be switching over to "The Dark Side" and getting an iPhone this year. That way I can ditch the iPod and use my phone to play my songs. I like wearing an arm band to hold my iPod while I run. I'm still looking for the perfect length cord for ear phones that doesn't smack me in the face while I run or get tangled around my arm. No, I don't have wireless ear buds - I'm not an early adapter!
